DEUTSCHEM HELDENMUT
1914, Versilbert bronze Hero Plaquette. 91.2mm X 67.5mm, 98.0g., Ernsting WVZ 53var.
Within the plaquette's flat field, a sunken broad oval with a raised profile ground-line. Image and text raised sculpturally from the picture surface. A naked Herakles (= Hercules) striding to left, a sword in his left hand, with his right arm strangling all three twisted necks of a composite hydra springing and clambering from the left.
Dated 1914; Text DEUTSCHEM HELDENMUT (To German Heroic Courage)
Rarity: RRRR This is an unrecorded variety of the Unique WVZ 53. If WVZ 53 is Unique then it is likely this variety might be too.
Grade: SS-VZ (VF+) Cabinet rub exposing bronze on some of the high points but does not distract from overall 'presence' of the piece.
