August Gaul
East-West 1915
Cast Silver medal, 46.25mm, 35.1g., Klose 8.23
Obverse: Gaul uses allegory to depict Russia as a bear walking east. Above war years 1914-1915, below OST (EAST).
Reverse: Within a pearled border a sea-lion balancing, slightly to the left (west), a globe symbolizing Great Britain and its naval supremacy. Above, a French coq facing west. Between the two animals WEST.
We haven't seen one of these outside of books before. Cast silver pieces during the war are next to unheard of and uber rare.
Grade: VZ+
