Obverse: A triple hecate as the Three Daughters of Fate: Militza with torch in hand; Stana, who carries the keys to the realm of the dead; and Elena, Queen of Italy, with snake in her hand. Inscription: “Nikitas Schicksalstöchter – 1914” (Nikita’s daughters of fate, 1914).
Reverse: Three hissing snakes around a sword dripping blood. Inscription: “Der Schwarzen Berge Niederlage – Weltkrieg” (Defeat of the Black Mountains – World War). Dated 1916. K•Goetz below.
On the defeat of Montenegro in 1916. Three of King Nicholas of Montenegro’s daughters represent evil symbols of countries they adopted by marriage. Militza, wife of Grand Duke Peter of Russia, Stana, wife of Grand Duke Nicholas of Russia, and Elena, Queen of Italy.
A beautiful and crisp example for this particular medallion. Great patina!!
