Obverse: The Pope sits in his elaborate chair, a dove nearby hides its head. In the background, Death with scythe rides the European bull into the flaming gates of Hell. Inscription, “Mein Reich ist nicht von dieser Welt” (My kingdom is not of this world). ‘KG’ under chair.
Reverse: The Pope, in a sailboat, hauls the lost Marianne (France) in with his fishing net. An English Tommy, sitting in the front of the boat, tries to persuade the Pope to give him an ambassador’s position at the Papacy using money as a bribe. Inscription, “Anbiederung” (Uninvited Introduction). Dated 1914.
