Cast bronze, Commemorative medal, 57.0mm, 55.50g, Frankenhuis 1475.

Obverse: Russian Bear wearing a Jacobinier cap; a sword through its body. Its injured legs bandaged and inscribed with the years of the war, 1914, 1915, 1916, 1917. In border, “Riga, 1917”. K•G, left of neck.

Reverse: An enormous vortex is created by the spinning of a huge scythe attached to an hourglass by way of a skeletal appendage. Below, massive crowds of men and horses of the Russian revolution, all moving into the vortex. In the center, “Der Fliigelschlag der Zeit” (The signs of the time).

To commemorate the fall of Riga to German troops on September 3, 1917.

A highly sought after example particularly with the current situation of the Baltic States in our present day.  Not much has changed, has it?
